Why this number matters so much
Your savings rate does two jobs at once: every extra percent both grows your pot fasterand proves you can live on less — which shrinks the pot you'll eventually need. That's why moving from 10% to 20% doesn't halve the journey to financial independence… it cuts it by more.
There's no "good" or "bad" here. A 5% rate while you clear expensive debt is genuinely excellent; a 40% rate that makes you miserable won't last. Find the number you can hold calmly, then nudge it upward when life allows.
